AN ANIMAL-FOOD APPROACH · AN OPEN CONVERSATION

Why give carnivore a look?

The appeal, with room for doubt.

I like the directness of this approach. You choose a few animal foods, cook them well, and pay attention. These are the arguments worth considering, alongside what the evidence supports.

01

Satiety

A review of higher-protein diets found a modest effect on fullness in short feeding studies. That supports an argument for protein at meals; it does not prove plants need to disappear. Read the protein review.

02

Simplicity

A smaller menu can make shopping and meal planning easier. That is a practical reason to like carnivore, not a clinical finding. Repeating a meal you enjoy may be more useful than chasing a perfect menu.

03

Fewer ingredients to untangle

People sometimes use a restricted menu to notice foods that disagree with them. Removing many foods at once cannot tell you which mattered. Work with a clinician or dietitian on suspected allergies, persistent symptoms, and reintroductions. Plants are not universally harmful.

04

Blood-sugar stability

Studies of carbohydrate restriction suggest changes in blood-glucose measures in adults with type 2 diabetes. Those diets are broader than carnivore, so they cannot establish a carnivore benefit. Medication changes belong with your prescriber. Read the systematic review.

05

What experience can tell us

A 2021 survey of 2,029 carnivore eaters reported high satisfaction. Participants were recruited through social media and reported their own results; there was no comparison group. This is a glimpse of experience with substantial limits. Read the survey.
